Subject: | The new MEphistoLab2 software package increases the productivity of the MEphisto Scope UM20x - The multi-functional USB scope and data logger. |
The MEphisto Scope (UM20x) was originally designed as a multi-functional USB-oscilloscope. With its recent improvements to the hard- and firmware, the device has become a real all-round USB-DAQ device. Its functions include a 2-channel oscilloscope with time- spectrum- (FFT) and XY-display (1 MS/s per channel, 16 bit, up to 1 MHz, range 200 mV...20 V), one 2-channel volt meter (±100 mV to ±10 V, DC, AC RMS), an analog and digital data logger as well as a 16-channel logic analyzer with up to 100 kHz. The 24 TTL-lines can be used as standard digital in-/outputs. Optional hardware is available to use these digital I/Os to drive relays or they can be optically isolated. The UM203 version acts as stand-alone logger and writes the captured data to an SD-card.
The first version of the MEphistoLab software has now been replaced by MEphistoLab2. This software is completely new and is the result of the cooperation between Meilhaus Electronic and MCD Elektronik. "Due to the possibilities of Windows 7 we were able to take a large step towards the development of a modern user interface that offers many features we have always wanted," says Ralf Brunnert, developer of the MEphisto Scope. "We were excited when we saw the features of the MCD ToolMonitor, so we immediately chose it as the new basis for the MEphistoLab software."
The MEphistoLab2 still offers the various features such as oscilloscope (incl. XY, spectrum/FFT), volt meter, logger and logic analyzer. Many new functions and a very intuitive user interface improve the software even further. The user interface can be arranged and the settings saved. Besides the graphic display with zoom and auto-scale functions there is also a list display available that shows the vital values such as RMS (AC/DC) and frequency to name a few. The software can export the data as binary-, XML-, and as CSV-data making it compatible to Excel. The integrated viewer can be used to display recorded signals. There is also a script-editor included that allows the experienced user to edit the functions of the scope to create specific, even automated measurement tasks. The integration into other software routines that support the Microsoft-technologies COM/DCOM, ActiveX, DLL or .Net-Assemblies is also possible. As an example this can be used to make and display measurements directly in Excel. A 7-minute video demonstrates the most important software features and the help-file is very comprehensive but easy to use.
Existing users of the MEphisto Scope can download the new software from the Meilhaus Electronic website. New devices will be shipped including MEphistoLab2. The free software can even be tested without a connected device. The MEphisto Scope is already in use as USB-DAQ device and data logger in many different fields of research and development, in schools and universities as well as in general measurement where a rugged mobile USB-scope is required.
