Serial Interfaces from Meilhaus Electronic - RS232, RS422, RS485

Serielle Interfaces aus der ME-Serie: RS-232, RS-422, RS-485

Serial interfaces - standard models and special solutions

The ME-9000 is a very flexible standard serial interface board from Meilhaus Electronic. It has up to 8 highspeed ports. They can be RS232, RS422/RS485 or mixed. A very special and sophisticated feature is its opto-isolation: The ME-9000 is available without  isolation (TTL ports), with standard opto-isolation (all lines/ports isolated with common ground, models "i") or with complete opto-isolation with separate grounds per port (models "p"). The ME-9000 is the ideal solution for POS/retail applications, as it has additional digital channels and a counter.

Applications of RS232, RS422 and RS485 interfaces

Classic application of serial RS232 interfaces RS232: Data transmission from PC to PC over short and longer distances (modem).

Special applications of serial interfaces: Retail, point-of-sales, point-of-information and identification/access systems. Retail and point-of-sales (POS) equipment are I/O and peripheral devices, that support the personnel at the point-of-sales (like barcode scanners, cash registers), whereas point-of information systems can be operated by any person for example with a touchscreen. Some examples: ATMs, ticket-vending machines, parking-ticket validators, ID/security systems, terminals in railway stations or airports, information terminals in museums.

In decentral, industrial remote I/O networks RS422 or RS485 based fieldbusses (PROFIBUS, MODbus) are used.
