Standard drivers (MCS9835/Nm9835 Chip) for Windows and Linux available:

Windows Drivers

…for Windows 95b/98/Me/NT4.0/2000/XP

  • Load the driver from the internet first:
    • Click to the address: http://www.moschip.com/mcs9835_downloads.php.
    • Choose the proper operating system for the MCS9835 (Nm9835) in the table "PCI Connectivity".
    • Save the packed file to a directory of your choice (e.g.: C:\temp).
    • Unpack the driver software.
  • Power down your computer.
  • Insert the board into a free PCI slot.
After power up, the new board will be detected automatically by the Windows "Hardware Wizard" and the message "New Hardware Found" will be displayed. The dialogs may differ slightly depending on your Windows version.
  • Select the option "Search for the proper driver for the device (recommended)" and click "Next".
  • Select the option "Specify a location:" and "Browse…" your computer for the directory you unpacked the driver to (e.g.: C:\temp).
  • Highlight the file proper INF-file and run the installation by "Next".
  • The new board will be added to the device manager and the port will be added to standard COM ports respectivly to LPT ports.
  • Reboot your computer.

Linux

Drivers For Linux an "Installation Guide" is available on the homepage of the chip manufacturer.

  • Load the ZIP file from the internet first:
  • Follow the instructions as described in the readme files to install the ports. Both the serial ports and the parallel port must be installed.

Note for Linux Kernel 2.4:

The Linux kernel 2.4 includes a special device driver named "parport_serial.o" which can be installed alternativly. For access to the driver select the option "Multi I/O cards" within the section "Parallel port support" and recompile the kernel. This driver supports the ME-9200 (MCS9835/Nm9835 chip) by default. This device driver is not yet available with kernel 2.6. In order to load the driver manually, simply type in the command line:
# modprobe parport_serial

If you want the driver to be loaded automatically, you can add an appropriate entry to the file /etc/modules.conf. For example:
post-install serial insmod parport_serial
This will cause the "parport_serial.o" module to be loaded after the serial driver. Depending on your system configuration the entry may differ from this example above.

With Agilent VEE and LabVIEW, the serial ports are accessible as standard COM ports.
