Electronic loads...

...work as power sinks (as opposed to power sources) and consume power in a precise, controlled and controllable manner. Connected to a device under test, they simulate variable loads and thus help to investigate the behaviour of the DUT. An electronic load replaces an ohmic load resistor/consumer. The power absorbed by the load is usually dissipated as heat. Electronic DC loads are used to test sources such as power supplies, batteries, solar and fuel cells or generators in all areas of technology. They often offer several operating modes, for example constant current, constant voltage, constant resistance, constant power. Often loads have protective mechanisms such as overpower protection, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, overtemperature protection, LRC/reverse voltage protection. AC loads test transformers, on-board and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Manufacturers of electronic loads include B+K Precision, ETSYSTEM, Gossen Metrawatt, Keysight Technologies, Rigol and Siglent.
