...refers to the control of properties such as angle/position, speed and acceleration of actuators/drives. The controller boards and modules from OMS (distributed by Meilhaus Electronic GmbH in Germany) are specially designed for controlling stepper motors and servo motors. Depending on the model they support multiple axes and encoder feedback. The controllers are accessed via USB, Ethernet/LAN, PCI or VMEbus from a PC system. Many models offer additional control lines.

Stepper motors and servo motors are special electric motors that allow specific properties to be controlled. With stepper motors the rotor can be turned through a defined angle (or a multiple thereof). With servo motors it is possible to control the angular position, rotational speed and acceleration. For this purpose they are additionally equipped with a sensor for determining the position. The control is transmitted by the servo controller. Such motors are used for positioning in machine tools, industrial robots, printers and CNC machines, for example.
