B+K Precision BA8100 EIS Analyzer for Diagnosis of Battery Systems

The B+K Precision BA8100 is an EIS-based battery analyzer (EIS = electrochemical impedance spectroscopy). EIS is a non-intrusive technique. The BA8100 helps to charcterize batteries through graphical analysis tools, such as Nyquist and Bode plots included in the provided software. The device can measure internal battery impedance at a desired frequency up to 10 kHz as well as voltage up to 80 V, current up to 3 A, phase, capacitance, inductance and quality factor. The BA8100 is applicable in dynamic EIS battery studies and diagnosing rechargeable batteries for the battery second use (B2U) market.

  • Fixed frequency measurements from the front panel.
  • Swept stimulus frequency with included software.
  • Maximum input voltage of 80 V.
  • EIS frequency range of 50 mHz...10 kHz.
  • Programmable DC and AC current settings.
  • Measurements include impedance Z, phase angle θ, voltage and current.
  • Impedance Z accuracy ±(0.5% of reading + 5 µΩ).
  • Simple 4-wire test connection.
  • LAN/Ethernet, USB (COM), and RS232 interfaces standard.
  • Applications: Incoming inspection, battery second use (B2U), battery stack service, and manufacturing.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: What is EIS?

Answer: EIS is the abbreviation for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. EIS is a swept frequency technique for evaluating the internal electrochemical and electrical properties of a battery under test. It is a method to characterize the impedance of a battery by stimulating it with a small amplitude AC signal.

Question: What is EIS used for?

Answer: The BA8100 brings EIS technology from the research laboratory to the industrial market. The device performs galvanostatic EIS on individual cells up to a voltage of 80 V, making it ideal for characterizing and testing energy storage systems. Sweeping the stimulus AC signal provides a graphical representation of the battery response. The instrument is used for incoming inspection, battery second use (B2U), battery stack service and manufacturing.
