Measure the "Driving Experience" with NVH: Noise, Vibration, and Harshness
The field of NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) refers to acoustic or tactile phenomena in a vehicle that reduce driving comfort. Workshops often have to deal with customer complaints that are highly subjective and difficult to describe in concrete terms, such as:
- "Whenever I drive over 80 km/h, my car makes this strange noise..."
- "When I brake hard, the pedals wobble and everything vibrates..."
- "Even the tiniest pothole sends a jolt through the seat and straight into my back...
For technicians, understanding and pinpointing these issues is a major challenge, even before the actual diagnosis and troubleshooting on the vehicle begins.
NVH measurements are a valuable tool here. They are used to verify and analyze noise, vibrations, and so-called "harshness" as objectively as possible. This can be done directly in the vehicle and on the road together with the customer. The data collected in this way is compared with previously collected data from fault-free vehicles. Various sensors are used for the measurements, such as microphones, accelerometers, force transducers, and others.
Pico's NVH solutions use Pico Automotive Scopes as the base measurement instruments, supplemented by NVH kits with the appropriate sensors and software.

PicoScope 7 Automotive is Pico Technology's diagnostic software for the PicoScope series of automotive oscilloscopes (it does not support standard T&M PicoScopes such as the PicoScope 2000, 3000E, 5000E, etc.). It enables the capture, display, and analysis of vehicle electrical signals for troubleshooting sensors, actuators, bus systems, as well as hybrid and electric vehicles.
Key features include guided diagnostic tests (with connection diagrams, measurement instructions, and interpretation aids), signal comparison with reference signals, bus system analysis (e.g., CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, Automotive Ethernet), extensive measurement and trigger functions, as well as the documentation and storage of measurement data.
The software helps workshops diagnose electrical and electronic faults more quickly and accurately.
