Frequently Asked Questions:
Question: What are Acromag transmitters used for?
Answer: Acromag transmitters are industrial signal conditioning modules. They are used to connect sensors and field instruments to control systems such as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), DCS (Distributed Control Systems), measurement systems, and displays. Their purpose is to measure, isolate, filter, convert, and monitor process signals in order to ensure data accuracy, protect sensitive equipment, and improve control performance in harsh industrial environments. Acromag transmitters convert raw signals from process sensors (thermocouples, RTDs, voltage, current) into standardized, stable signals (0/4 - 20 mA, 0 - 10 V), while also linearizing and amplifying them. They are designed for decentralized installation, often on DIN rails, and frequently provide galvanic isolation.
Question: Special case – Acromag alarms (limit alarms/modules) – what is special about them?
Answer: These modules monitor a process signal at the module input and trigger a physical relay contact (output) when the signal exceeds or falls below a predefined upper or lower limit. Their primary applications are in process monitoring, safety systems with shutdown functionality, and control of ON/OFF devices.
Question: Special case – Acromag isolators (signal isolators/splitters) – what is special about them?
Answer: These modules provide galvanic isolation between input and output to prevent signal interference and ground loops, and to protect sensitive control room equipment from high-voltage spikes or electrical noise. Their main applications include eliminating ground loop errors in 4 – 20 mA current loops, protecting PLCs from voltage surges, and signal splitting for multiple independent receivers. Types include: 2-wire (loop-powered) versions and 3-/4-wire versions (AC/DC powered) with 3-way isolation (input, output, power supply).
Question: Where are Acromag transmitters typically used?
Answer: In industrial manufacturing and process industries; applications include oil, gas, water treatment, power generation, mining, and manufacturing. They are also used in hazardous environments, as many Acromag products are certified to UL/cUL Class 1 Div 2.
