Benefits od the PicoScope PS4000A Series - High Resolution Special Oscilloscopes

  • USB PC oscilloscopes with 2, 4 or 8 channels.
  • High 12 bit sampling resolution.
  • Supported by the PicoScope6 software incl. serial decoding, mask testing, SDK, and more.

PicoScope 4000A Series 12 bit USB PC Oscilloscopes, 2/4/8-Channels

The PicoScope 4000A series replace the PicoScope 4224 (PP478), 4424 (PP479), and 4824 (PP916). All PicoScope 4000A models have 12 bit hardware resolution (to 16 bit with resolution enhancement), 80 MS/s sampling rate, 256 MS buffer memory, built in function generator/arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) and a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface that powers the instrument and delivers 480 Mbit/s communications to the host PC. They run with PicoScope6 software and have an SDK that gives users direct programming control of the hardware for custom applications. The scopes also work with PicoLog6 datalogging software for lower speed long-duration captures. Applications: Multi-channel precision waveform measurements of sensors, actuators, audio, vibration, power and electro-mechanical signals as well as low speed electronic sensors and serial communications.

  • USB PC oscilloscopes for benchtop and embedded use.
  • 2, 4, or 8 analof input channels
  • High 12 bit hardware resolution, up to 16 bit with resolution enhancement.
  • 80 MS/s sampling rate.
  • Deep memory 256 MS on all models.
  • 1% DC accuracy.
  • ±10 mV...±50 V input ranges.
  • 10,000 segment waveform buffer.
  • Up to 70 dB SFDR.
  • Built in function generator and arbitrary waveform generator (AWG): 80 MS/s, 14 bit.
  • SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface; bus-powered.
  • Supported by the PicoScope6 software and SDK as well as PicoLog6 datalogging software.
  • Split-screen waveform viewing.
  • Advanced digital triggering.
  • Serial bus decoding.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: When do I need a high 12-bit resolution on an oscilloscope?

Answer: Usually oscilloscopes work with a resolution of 8 bit. In the development of these general purpose oscilloscopes, fast sampling rates and high bandwidths for the analysis of fast digital signals are the primary goals.

The PicoScope 4000A oscilloscopes with high 12-bit resolution are used especially for measuring analog signals with high resolution, improved dynamic range, reduced noise and reduced distortion. Bandwidth and sample rate are in a lower range with 20 MHz and 80 MS/s. Typical applications, among many others are:

  • Power supply: Start sequencing. Harmonics analysis.
  • Audio: (7-channel) audio systems. Acoustic emission analysis.
  • Machine monitoring. Motor condition monitoring.
  • Multi-sensor systems.
  • Multi-phase drives and controls.
  • Vibration analysis and diagnostics.
  • Long-duration waveform capture.
    and many more

Question: Are probes included with the PicoScope 4000A oscilloscopes?

Answer: The PicoScope 4224A (2-channel model) has 2 passive probes included, the PicoScope 4424A (4-channel model) and PicoScope 4824A (8-channel model) have 4 passive probes included. If all 8 channels of the PicoScope 4824A are to be used with probes, 4 additional probes are required as optional accessories. Also included is an USB 3.0 cable (1.8 m), a quick start guide and a carry case. The software and full user manual are available via free download from the manufacturer's web site.

Question: Which software do the PicoScope 4000A models work with?

Answer: Like almost all PicoScopes, the PicoScope 4000A series works with the PicoScope6 software for Windows (a complete, powerful, out-of-the-box PC oscilloscope software, test and measurement lab). Plus beta versions of PicoScope software for Linux and macOS. In addition, for developers, there is the Software Development Kit (SDK) for various programming environments/languages.
