Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: What is an MSO and what can it do?

Answer: MSO stands for Mixed Signal Oscilloscope. In addition to the analog inputs of a conventional oscilloscope, the MSO models offer digital inputs for acquiring and displaying digital logic signals. In other words, these instruments "include" a logic analyzer. The advantage over a pure logic analyzer is that the logic signals can be acquired and displayed in time relation to the analog channels. Thus, an analysis of the signal integrity of analog signals in relation to digital control signals is possible. Mixed-signal oscilloscopes are therefore particularly suitable for analysis and troubleshooting/debugging in mixed analog and digital circuitry designs.

Question: Is the MSO function an option or included as standard?

Answer: The PicoScope 2000-MSO series are complete mixed-signal instruments on the hardware side. The digital input cable and 20 logic test clips are also included. The PicoScope software fully supports the MSO function. In addition, passive probes for the analog inputs are included. So no further accessories or upgrade/licensing is required for MSO operation.

Question: What are the options for expanding the PicoScopes?

Answer: The PicoScopes consist of the oscilloscope module (hardware), a USB cable and the software for PC/laptop. Based on this concept, the hardware is the fixed base, Pico does not work with options here, but always provides the full functionality. The functions that have to be purchased as options with other manufacturers (e.g. licensing/activation) are implemented in Pico via the software and are included in the scope of delivery as standard. These include, for example, mask testing or the decoding and analysis of serial buses. The function and arbitrary signal generator included with most PicoScope models is also supported by the software as standard. The software is constantly updated and extended, the updates are free of charge.
